Gary (Martin Freeman) works as a jingle-writer for more successful ex-band mate Paul (Simon Pegg) and his relationship with long term partner Dora (Gwyneth Paltrow) is disintegrating. He begins to dream of an alternative life in which glamorous mystery woman ‘Anna' (Penelope Cruz) figures heavily! He seeks guidance from Mel, an expert in lucid dreaming and begins an imaginary relationship with Anna. When Gary creates Anna she's the perfect woman - sexy, willing, consoling, and the antithesis of Dora, so it's easy for him to forsake real life to wallow in dreams. The crux comes when Anna crops up in real life as the self-absorbed model Melody, who is not quite so welcoming of Gary's advances. Also starring Danny DeVito and Jarvis Cocker (as himself).
