Pershore Heritage Centre - 'Royal Visits'

Thursday 27th March to Wednesday 7th May

It's known that Aethelflaeda, the daughter of King Alfred, often visited the early monastery at Pershore, whilst relics of his grand-daughter, acquired for the abbey, resulted in the town becoming something of a pilgrimage centre.  It's said that King John would pray at St. Andrews en route for Worcester and it's thought that Queen Elizabeth once stayed at ‘The Angel', then an active coaching inn on the road from London to Aberystwyth.

The Magic Flute (PG)

Kenneth Branagh takes Mozart's opera 'The Magic Flute' off the stage and on to the killing fields of the First World War featuring a newly adapted libretto by Stephen Fry.

When rumours start that King Henry VIII (Eric Bana) is looking for another wife to give him an heir, Sir Thomas Boleyn devises a plan for his daughter Anne (Natalie Portman) to seduce the king and bear him a son. However Henry takes to Mary (Scarlett Johansson) who though already married obeys the king and provides him with a son whilst reluctantly falling in love with him.

A modern and delightful fairy tale about a girl cursed by an old witch to have the nose of a pig.   Penelope is locked away in a mansion by a wicked mother and brain-addled dad because they are ashamed of her appearance.  They even fake her death in infancy.  Now they need to find a way to marry her off in the hope that love will lift the curse.

Mike Bagshaw - 'Characters & Character - A Portrait Exhibition'

Thursday 17th April to Tuesday 6th May

Dr Mike Bagshaw has put together an exhibition of his portraits. Mostly they are family and friends from the Evesham and Pershore area.  Mike originally comes from Salford near Manchester where for a while as a child he was taught by the internationally acclaimed portrait artist Harold Riley.
